Windows 10 – L2TP/IPsec VPN Connection

  1. Control Panel -> Network and Sharing Centre
  2. Setup a new connection or network -> Connect to a workplace -> Use my internet connection (VPN)
  3. Enter internet address  and name for display
  4. tick “remember credentials” -> Create
  5. Change adapter settings -> VPN connection -> Properties -> Security
  6. Type of VPN: L2TP/IPsec -> Advanced settings: tick “Use pre-shared key for authentication” and enter key
  7. Data encryption
    1. Require encryption (disconnect if server declines)
    2. Select “allow these protocols” -> Microsoft CHAP version 2
  8. Try to connect

If the connection cannot be established, try the following:

  1. Windows+R -> regedit
  2. Navigate to Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\PolicyAgent
  3. New DWORD (32-bit) Value
    1. Name: AssumeUDPEncapsulationContextOnSendRule
    2. Value: 2
  4. Restart PC

If it still fails, check the pre-shared key again
